Illustration Friday "Suspense"
Here is my Illustration for this weeks word "suspense". The concept for this picture came to me very quickly, and after a few drafts of it I got one that I wanted to continue with.
After scanning the line drawing onto my PC, I used Corel Draw to make cut lines where the shaded and highlighted areas were going to be.
After that I filled the areas with color. I wanted to bigger guy in the back to have a yellowish green color to represent fear and jealousy. The child reading I wanted to be more innocent so i gave him the red and white propeller hat and added pink to his cheeks.
The next step was to create a background. I wanted to do sort of a paint dripping feel but unfortunately was limited to the artistic media tools since I don't have a drawing tablet. Luckily there was a tool close enough to what I wanted so I created this background and added a gradient underneath.
And that was it! I'm really happy with this one and I want to do more work digitally. Guess its time to save up for a tablet.Cheers.

Personal Art "bored on vacation"
Another personal piece I wanted to publish is a pencil drawing I did on
vacation snowboarding out west last month. It was inspired when
listening to the band Unexpect. If you check them out this picture might make more sense.
Personal Art
Just wanted to post some older work I did for personal reasons last
semester, This piece I ended up using for a T-shirt design which turned
out great, I wear it all the time!
This here is one of my favorite pictures I've drawn this year, it was colored using Corel Draw X5 and used to print T-shirt on a textile inkjet printer. The concept came from the issue of human consumption and our current strangle hold on the planet. I really like this picture and I think I'll do more digital coloring in the future. It just looks very clean and professional however it isn't as enjoyable to me to color digitally but it does look really good.
Illustration Fridays "Forward"
Hey, here is my piece for illustration Friday LAST week the word was forward. I kinda dropped the ball on posting this even tho it has been done for a while. Anyway I decided to go with the literal sense of the word as in moving forward. After a few concepts I quickly decided on one I thought had potential and I drew it up in one draft, so unfortunately this isn't a progress post.
After drawing the line work I traced it to watercolor paper and added color, after that just added black outline around it. All in all it turned out very well and left me with an uncontrollable urge to draw more dinosaurs!
Cheers.

Illustration Fridays "Twirl"
Illustration Fridays : Friday January 27th
Hey guys here is my illustration for this weeks word, "twirl"
At first I thought this week would be bogus, the last thing I draw was a flower or a ballerina being the first things that came to mind. However i began to think of the meaning of the word more and I thought on the idea of the classic spy and villain encounter where the villain twirls around in his chair to face the protagonist.
In the end I decided to combine a few ideas of plants twirling twisting around itself and the spy villain idea. So i drew up a rough sketch of what i thought the picture might look like.
After a few attempts i thought the picture above was the one with the most potential and was happy with the idea even though it didn't reflect the word "twirl" as much as i would have hoped, I liked this idea so i went ahead and drew up a second spending more time on it. Unfortunately I got carried away and finished it before I knew it, so I didn't take a picture of the line drawing. Either way here is the finished product.
I was extremely pleased with how this turned out, much better then the first draft in my opinion. I had a lot of fun drawing this and a few times went on a tangent and drew an eye, a singing groundhog on the guys lap and for the heck of it i gave him a top hat. I mean really who doesn't want a top hat!?
Originally I was going to do this as a watercolor, however the graphite was much to visible from tracing the line drawing. Instead I used water color to play around with some color and used pencil crayon to do the final drawing. I added some shading in pencil to the man and then went over the whole thing with a fine tip marker. In the end I think I prefer the pencil crayon but I still want to paint. Maybe next week...
